The Original Black Knight

OPD121 - Retired

Barry Black started Black Knight Graphics, later a division of Black Knight Enterprise, out of his house in 1987. He started small and networked with local departments in the King and Pierce County areas of Washington State. 23 years later he was producing emblems and insignia for departments all across the USA and Canada.

Barry understood what departments were looking for (and not getting) back then, having been a police officer and deputy sheriff. Barry started as a deputy sheriff for the Harrison County Sheriff's Office in Mississippi before coming to Washington. Once here, Barry was hired by the Orting, Washington Police Department as an officer.

As well as a businessman, Barry was an avid collector of police / sheriff badges and patches, mostly from Washington State but other parts of the country too. He was a yearly sponsor of the Pacific Northwest Police Collector’s Show. He is responsible for the corruption of many unsuspecting young people into the most nefarious and disreputable hobby of insignia collecting… Our mothers warned us about people like him… LOL!!!

Barry passed away in January of 2011 after battling a long illness. He was only 57 years old.

We hope to honor Barry’s memory by continuing what he started, a company that believes in customer service and quality products at a fair price.
